Trucking in New Jersey Playbook 

 NJ Adopts FMCSA Rules for Intrastate CMV 10,001 pounds or greater

The State of New Jersey has adopted the FMCSA at N.J.S.A. 13:60 for Intrastate Commercial Motor Vehicles 10,001 Pounds of Greater. This adoption includes revisions to the definition of a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) operating on highways in the State of New Jersey. These vehicles will now be subject to FMCSR as adopted in N.J.A.C. 13:60.  Learn about who is impacted and what they must do.

 Trending in NJ: Local Police Conducting Roadside Inspections

According to NJ law – the NJSP and the PANYNJ Police are the only law enforcement agencies allowed to randomly stop and conduct a federal safety inspection of a CMV. Learn about a growing trend in local police departments training officers to conduct roadside safety inspections.

NEW Food Transportation Security/Safety Regulations

Learn about the new food safety rules under the landmark FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) that will help to prevent food contamination during transportation. The rule requires those involved in transporting human and animal food by motor or rail vehicle to follow best practices for sanitary transportation, such as properly refrigerating food, adequately cleaning vehicles between loads and properly protecting food during transportation. The new regulations began for large fleets on April 20, 2017. The rest of the industry must comply by April 2018. Find out what the new rules require.

 FMCSA Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP) 

Learn about a great tool to access commercial driver’s safety and crash records. PSP is a FMCSA program administered by NIC. The program helps carriers make more informed hiring decisions by providing secure, electronic access to a commercial driver’s five-year crash and three-year inspection history from the FMCSA Motor Carrier Management Information System (MCMIS).
